WWW,
March, 2009 - Privacy is the right of a
visitor/reader of this website, and it is
the duty of the Dubroom webmaster to provide
this as much as possible. That is why the
Dubroom opted out of the new
"DART" Program.
Of course, someone who enters the
Internet is first and foremost responsible
to guard his or her own privacy. If one
leaves one's e-mail address everywhere, one
can be sure that one's e-mail will be filled
with spam. But it is also the responsibility
of a website, to at least provide
information to the visitors and respect
their privacy as much as possible. That's
why the Dubroom has a
special page on privacy in the FAQ section.
On this page, you will also find
information about the advertizements on the
Dubroom. As you may know, these
advertizements are brought by the mediation
of Google and help towards keeping the site
free of charge.
Not everyone sees the same advertizement,
though. When you are not English of native
tongue, for example, you might see an ad in
your own language. This is done through the
fact that cookies are stored on your
computer which tells you a bit about your
browsing history. You can turn off these
cookies, by the way.
Just recently, Google
informed the websites that joined the
AdSense network, that they will soon install
"Interest Based Advertising", or
DART . In short, this program will make use
of just about everything you do on the
Internet and you will be categorized in
special interest groups. For more
information about DART, CLICK
HERE.
Even though this is good
news for the websites that are part of
AdSense, it is potentially bad news for your
privacy. To make a choice here, isn't that
hard, and that is why the Dubroom opted out
of this DART program.
There is also something you
can do to make sure that your browsing
behavior is not registered by DART either.
After all, The Dubroom is just a little,
tiny place in a huge and large universe
called Cyberspace. If you want to make sure
that also these sites that did not opt out
of DART (probably the most) you can also opt
out of it yourself. For that you have to
visit the Google
Privacy page.
