Blood and Fire themselves are silent. No
confirmations, no denials either. Their website
was offline for a while, but has just recently
been re-surfaced in Cyberspace and on that
website, somewhere in the corners of the Message
Boards, you can find what seems to be the most
accurate description of the label's current state:
I've exchanged some e-mails with Steve Barrow,
and have more details about the current state of
B&F. He has asked me to keep them private, so
I'll make a boxing analogy.
The champ has taken a pounding and is up against
the ropes. He's not knocked out, but is seeing
stars and mumbling a little. His coach is talking
with his trainer to figure out how the champ can
keep on fighting. So while it doesn't look good,
the fight is not over yet! (SOURCE)
Ouch!
That hurts!
It looks like, there is some serious business
going on indeed. One can try and speculate, but
this really doesn't look good.
Here and there, while browsing over different
messageboards, you will find that many people have
their ideas about the Blood and Fire selections.
The impression that some ones have, is Steve
Barrow has run out of the creativity. A creativity
that is needed to compile the best re-issues. But
others will speak about new re-release by Steve
Barrow, but not with B&F...
Another speculation would be, that MP3
downloads through file sharing software have
brought the label down to it's knees, disabling
them from sponsoring further releases.
Speculations, and nothing more. Until the label
comes out and confirms or denies the rumors, it is
all we will meet.
One thing is for sure, though: Blood and Fire
is in a desperate situation. The Label is a
champion, just like Steve Barrow. And when a
champion gets a blow, that blow truly is severe.
